PR for small businesses

Has anyone tried getting any PR for their business and has any success?

It can get confusing with all the acronyms sorry about that I meant Public Relations

We live in a smaller market and we have been able to get some businesses out of the PR work that we do though we do not do much of it

Most legitimate newspapers are looking for interesting stories not disguised marketing campaigns but if you have a story that could help the correspondent develop a broader and appealing story then we have seen it work otherwise it is a waste of time.
