Any Suggestions?

I recently just moved to a small town. After being in this small town for a little over a month I have began to think that it would be a good idea to open a store that sold items that are not so accsable in a small town. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could go about getting items in mass quantity for less money and on how to start the business idea up?

Re: Any Suggestions?

There are wholesaling guides that you could purchase online by doing a google search. I would try to find products that are not available online.

Is the market big enough for you to earn a profit, other than a convenience store?

If it is a small town you will not get the turnover you need. I would recommend you do something over the internet where it does not matter where you live.

I agree a convenience store would be your best bet and I would drive to Costco or Sams to stock up, otherwise the mailing costs of having items shipped to you will eat into your margins

What kind of items are you looking to sell? Your question is very broad. But you need to be fully aware of the costs involved in such a venture. If you are talking about a brick and mortar location, your overhead expenses are going to be pretty high. You will have to pay for rent, utilities, payroll, advertising, fixtures, POS system, supplies, furniture, taxes, etc.

If you have a very small customer base you may not be able to meet expenses, much less turn a profit.

You need to research wholesalers to get an idea of the costs involved with inventory. To get info you will likely need a reseller ID #.

You should start working up a business plan to get a good feel for the startup and ongoing expenses. That will also force you to look at the marketability of such a business in your town.

I offer a start up kit below that includes a manual with step by step instructions so you can write your own business plan and a timeline manual (among many other items) to show you how to proceed with a start up.

I agree the opportunity is greater if you find a profitable internet model.

Based upon your signature link I would do what you are doing now unless it is not profitable

I agree why would you change your business model when the place you are moving to is a logical place to have an internet business?
