Are you interested in a barter system?

One of the ideas I've been tossing around for this forum is a barter system. I'm seeking feedback on it. Would you find something like it useful? How would you like it to be implimented?

Yes, I'd be very much interested in such a system.

I think that at this stage it would be good to have a special forum for barter where people could post their threads and have a trader rating system for it.

When this start to grow big then we can have a custom software which would allow people to filter barter posts according to custom requirements.

Would this simply be a forum where people could post have-to-trades and looking-fors, or is there more infrastructure than that? If so, more details would be interesting...

Exclamation Trading companies

Have any of you worked with any of the trading companies that exist? There are some organizations now that set up trade systems between companies for good they would need.

Small Example: Metal fabrication shop, Accounting Office, Office Supply Store, Metal Supply

These guys don't buy goods, they trade (you can buy too based on surplus need, but all in all your trade value goes into a pot/trade pool of sorts I think).

Metal shop makes shelves and metal tables.
Trades these, in order to secure accounting services, metal supplies, and office supplies.

Accounting Office trades services for office supplies.

Metal Supply trades metal for office supplies and accounting services.

Office Supply trades, possibly for accounting services, but also for custom or stock metal shelving and desks to resell to other companies outside the pool.

Its a very interesting concept, and I am very interested into the breadth of the market and services that could be offered within a trading circle. Also, how do "trades" get recorded for purposes of the government? Hmmm.

the problem with a straight out barter system is the trades would get wrote up as a loss of the cost of manufacturing(on both sides) however when you recieve a product for $0 there is nothing to report. that being said, in this society a barter system wouldnt work. we barter with money every day instead of goods. now i'm not an accountant, or anything similar so dont take my word on it. also i'd assume that it depends what type of company is doing the bartering. some non-profits cant pay workers but they can give them tickets to the local movies and similar things as long as cash doesnt change hands. bartering brings in a whole big area to grab things from most likly would vary state to state

Interesting thoughts glaucon, so you are saying techincally that bartering wouldn't allow people to skip the taxes?

Sorry if off-topic but, I ran across freecycle.org recently, neat idea...

In my experience, these things don't work, sorry to say. Sure, people need logo design but what do I need from other people?....

They do work

Well, they do work. I am racking my brain trying to remember the name of the company, but I just read a large article on a trading/bartering company, that gathers partners just for that purpose.
The jist of the article was that they were expanding, and doing quite well, with 1000s of satisfied trading partners.

If I find the article I will post it.

Barter is really great way to exchange product's or services. But it's hard to do it for some companies. As an example, I can mention our business project
