| Shakeup at Sony. Gets a boss that doesn't speak Japanese! In an emergency session of Sony board, Nobuyuki Idei agreed to step down as CEO and hand over the reigns of the company to Sir Howard Stringer, 63, who has overseen its U.S.-based movie and music operations. This move will make him the first non-Japanese CEO of Sony. The change would take place after a shareholder vote on June 22. Stringer was also nominated for a seat on the board of directors. Stringer was hired by Sony in 1997 to run its entertainment units, including Columbia Pictures and the then Sony Music. Stringer will also continue with his current position and the entertainment units will continue reporting to him. Read More - USA Today |

| I havent been following Sony but are they doing so bad that they needed to replace thier CEO in an emergency session? Maybe I should read the artcle because it says that its traditional consumer electronics units are doing poorly. Sony used to stand for quality and innovation but I think the problem is that they let themselves slide into mediocrity. The true audio/video-philes dont see Sony's products on par with its competitors. Could it be a simple case of being into too many markets and not specializing and being great in one?

| The electronics industry is highly competitive. It is hard for any company to stay ahead for long. They need to be very agressive to keep from being left behind. Some new product introduced onto the market would help to revive their image. |
