What to do if you are going on vacation?

We are a small business and were wondering what other small businesses do when they go on vacation and they want coverage? Where do you get the coverage? Do you give them access to everything? How do you train/pay them?

Re: What to do if you are going on vacation?

We have had to do this as well and to a certain extent it is a leap of faith. But we used an individual who had done some work for us an independent contractor and asked her to cover for us. She did a good job - we lost some sales because we did not give her access to the back store. She mainly returned call for us.

Re: What to do if you are going on vacation?

We get most of our traffic through PPC campaigns and we turn them off while we are on vacation if we do get any calls we try to return them but if we lose business we lose business thats the reason we own our own business so we do not have to worry about it. I would not want to give anyone the "keys to the store"

We turn off our PPC as well and leave an automated message saying that we are gone for the week and in case of an emergency we let them know how to get in touch with us

Write a list of tasks that need doing...

Way before you take an extended time off, look out and test some consultants out who can do the work.

However, it depends on how much doing you need done while you're away. For some, it's a matter of finding someone to answer phones, for others there is work that needs to be done while they're gone no matter what.
