I doubt the CEO would do or care much even if you got your letter read by him. I'm not sure at all what kind of business you're in, but generally I feel most comfortable when doing business with people I can relate to, and that excludes for the most part mega-corporations. Get a retainer, or at least a contract, before you invest much effort into any client.

dealing with big companies

For me, every company I deal with is bigger than I am. It is a sad part of what I do that I can't get enough walk in trade to survive without them. They usually provide a good amount of work and at times provide some shielding from the seasonal nature of this business. Their own employees missing work for vacation, or illness, or quitting tend to produce work for me during slow periods. Since there is a long term relationship involved the paycheck for the work keeps coming. they do tend to get rather demanding though, sometimes more than others. That can be difficult to deal with. It is important to keep faith in myself and trust that things will work.

Re: Dealing with BIG Companies

You have to approach a big company like a big company. Being professional, having the right tools, templates and documents that they would have at their firm.

Re: Dealing with BIG Companies

You need to approach them with confidence and with a feeling that you really do not need their business. Have you had anyone do that to you? You can always tell people who are desparate for business and those that have the confidence that they can do the job at the right price.

Re: Dealing with BIG Companies

Approach the big companies with confidence, but do not forget that you actually approach a particular persons. So, the approach shall differ from person to person, i.e. from company to company. It is also different whether the company is in the high technology business or in agriculture industry.

The CEO was probably once a small fish too... so why not at least try?
