Google Adsense. Good? Bad?

I spend a great deal of time looking at other webmasters websites, its actually part of my job as an affiliate manager. I have been stumped on this and maybe you can help make me feel better about it.

Why would anyone want to put google adsense on their website and earn a few bucks a month, and drive visitors, traffic, customers away from their site? I know there are sites built around adsense and thats cool, but I see content sites, forums, even sites selling merchandise that will have adsense ads on their site. It makes no sense to me.

For example: When i go to a website that is selling incense, and there are adsense ads for other companies selling incense, the owner of the site I am on better hope I don't see an appealing ad.

Hmmm...I bet someone could make some money if they developed ads around pulling people from other sites into yours via adsense.

Thoughts?

While I am in favor of content sites having contextual ads [ From my own and my clients' experiences I can tell that AdSense has made us more money than any other ad network. But that might be because the sites I have always developed or worked with were Text Content sites and rich in High Value keywords!] but for eCommerce sites - it's an absolute NO!!!

To be true... it does not make sense to me also. In my opinion, with no offences to those doing it, the sites doing it are having a short term vision and actually hurting their internal branding!!!

If I am correct, every ad has this purpose only!

I thin that ultimately you can make more money from Adsense than if you had an incense product......just build 500 adsense websites all generating about 10 dollars a day and your good to go.

I think most people would have trouble making one website that consistantly make ten bucks a day, let alone five hundred of them.

google adsense

I had a google adsense banner on my page,,, lured by the chance to earn some money. I found that my competitors were appearing on the banner. Of course I wouldn't know how much if any business I lost to them. I took the banner off my page but am left with a problem. I use netfirms webhosting. They reserve the right to place a google banner on my page to cover the cost of hosting. I added a couple of paragraphs to my page about another subject, hoping to alter the content of the google banner. That worked, but I suspect that also hurts my rank in the search engines.

I see there are both Pros and Cons of Google Adsense.

Pros:

Quote:
  • Great Pay Out Rate
  • Excellent Click Tracking + Banner Tracking System
  • Great referral payouts
  • Accurate System!
Cons:

Quote:
  • Many accounts terminated
  • NO reason given for termination most of the times.
  • Information isn't updated untill two hours of previous update.
So these were my thoughts

Hope they help some one

Re: Google Adsense. Good? Bad?

I do not thing that adsense makes sense (no pun intended) for a long term strategy. If you are going to spend all that time optimizing a site and trying to develop it wouldnt it make more sense to spend more of that time on a site that could bring in potentially alot more?

May be the web master and the owner of the site are different persons and one or both of them have no experience in the marketing.

No one commercial site, that offers products or services (except directory services and similar) should host any kind of third party ad.

Sites with free resources, tutorials, forums and other kind of internet communities use AdSence and other similar services to make some money from advertising as they have no other income from the web site.

Re: Google Adsense. Good? Bad?

I think that if you want to have a sustainable business model and long term income, adsense is not the way to go. It maybe a way of just putting a one page site together as a place holder until you know what you want to do with it.
