AdSense's New Features!

Google has introduced some new features for its AdSense Program-

Multiple ad units : Publishers are now allowed to place up to three ad units on every web page. Google AdSense's system will automatically recognize the additional ad units, and will serve unique ads to each. The ad units can each have different color palettes, formats, and alternate ad URLs.

Collapsing ad units : When targeted ads aren?t available for an ad unit, the collapsing ad unit feature will shrink the empty ad unit, so that blank ad spaces are eliminated from your page.

New name for WebSearch : The Official name for AdSense for Seach has been changed from ?WebSearch plus AdSense for search.' to simply AdSense for search.

Multiple domains for AdSense for search SiteSearch :You can now specifying multiple domains for SiteSearch.You now have an option to enter up to three domains when generating your search code - your AdSense for search box will list each domain with a radio button, allowing your users to choose the site on which they would like to search.

Ads by Goooooogle : Google is testing its new branding [ Rather than Ads by Google ] for AdSense.

:rant: So , what are your thoughts on the new changes in Google AdSense?

I seem to be doing a little better with the multiple ad units but not much.

I would like to hear from people who use Site Search. Do you find a benefit from it?

I like most of them. I really don't like the "Gooooooogle" though, it just looks like crap

The multiple ads per page sounds cool but I have heard it doesn't work out good. More impressions, less clicks, lower CTR.

That is a very good point. I had not thought of this possibility initially as I was thinking more along the lines of more ad exposure. As of right now I have not seen it lower my CTR but I will keep a close eye on it and possibly reduce the number of ads running on the page if I see it dropping. Thanks for the thought.

Here is the thread I was talking about - Result of adding a second AdSense unit.

Quote:
Here's what happens when you add a second Google ad, Clickthrough rates crash. I went from about .5 to .2, and my Effective CPM has also been cut more than half. Thats because each ad counts as one page impression and of course the bottom ads will be clicked way less than the top ads. Each page view generates two page impressions. If you show three ads per page it'll crash even more!

If Google terminates affiliates because of CTR or CPM rates, there might be a lot of us that end up geting that dreadful E-mail.

Before this change I averaged 15,000 page impressions a day, and with nine hours left today, I've got 39,056 'Page impressions', er ad impressions. By the end of the day it'll probably be more like 70,000-80,000 with about 30,000 of that being from adding the ads to my vBulletin boards. Still a huge increase from 15,000!

I think they should change 'Page impressions' to 'Ad impressions'. Earnings wise it looks like it's staying about the same. I'll need a few extra days to see how much of the earnings come from the channels for the second ads, and message boards.

This also increases the number of PSA ads, or your own ads, BIG time. Before this I was geting my own ads to show up about 1,000 times per day, and today it looks to be around 10,000 ad spots showing my own ads. I don't think those numbers are included in the page impression number, so it might get close to 80-90,000 total impressions counting my own text ads!!!

Multiple ad units is very cool, especially if you control them to specific usergroups. visitors, special members, contributing members or just new members. Various pages can now hold various small banners, and other pages can hold just 1 big footer. text or graphical.

A great solution to nearly every web site that wants to get some money to cover the costs or even make money with it.

Floris is right...

Although the CTR goes down, you have to take in to account that the number of impressions has doubled...

I run two ad blocks on my blog and find that it preforms quite well...

I can't really compare the results to when I was only running one block though, because the site underwent a redesign right around the same time as I switched to 2 ads...

Nonetheless, Revenue went up...

Don't forget if the ads are not displaying b/c their aren't enough advertising for that particular page of google ads then you can add an alternate url to display just use this code:

Add under

google_ad_client =

Code:
google_alternate_ad_url = "http://www.yoursite.com/yourhtml.html";

or

google_alternate_ad_url = "http://www.yoursite.com/yourpic.jpg";
