I have seen many websites without any affiliate links. So where from the income comes? (Except cases where the site is there for selling the owners' products)

I would venture to guess that about 80% of the sites out there do not make any money so it does not surprise me that you have found a few many people just are following their hobby or passion and do not look to make much money
