Joe Jobs attack, in simple words, is if someone spams in your name without you asking them to do so

Though it can be easily proved that you are not the one responsible for it, by getting into technical details, but for a non techie like me

, the damage has already been done!!!
I thought that it might be a good idea if we all do some collective brainstorming and list the remedial steps that can be taken to nullify the negative PR that it has generated for you. :writing:
I'll start:
Confess it: First step would be to go out and proclaim that you have been sabotaged -- post about it on your homepage, send a mail about it to your current customers. Explain to them that you are NOT sending them the spam and you do not have their name on the list. Also, post a sample of the spam being sent in your name so that they recognize what you are talking about!
And yes, apologize for the inconvenience caused to them and ask for their help in spreading a word about your situation!
Report to Spamcop: Go to SpamCop.com, paste the spam mail along with the full email header [which is the only part that cannot be forged] and hit interrogate.
