Google goes for Paypal

Google is apparently going to get into the e-payment business Paypal style with a new service being called Google Wallet.

Google declined to comment but it will interesting how it plays out since Paypal's parent company - ebay - is a big time Google Ad client.

Really? I wouldn't have thought they'd be interested in a service like that. They'll have a very hard time competing with Paypal. How many accounts have Paypal got? Something like 85 million.

However, Google has potential of beating them where it hurts the most -> Customer Service. Which is virtually non-existent for PayPal.

Also, Google has far wider audience. SO, it would not take them much time to reach 85 million mark.

If Google gets into this business AND doesn't just restrict it to US / Canada, then I'd be really-really happy.

I dunno, Google has a lot of hype going for it and everyone loves them and what they are doing. I've heard nothing but praise over gmail and google maps and as for searches, yahoo and the rest are just afterthoughts for many people. Google also has its adsense and adwords clients that may already be tappable for something like this. I'm just kind of curious on how they will improve the model.
