Gmail Connects to its users...

It's so refreshing to see these kind of messages from large corprations of Google's Size -

Take a look at the message On GMail's Homepage -

Quote:
A Google approach to email.
2004 was quite a year for us! Here's a quick recap:

April 1st: Gmail launches. Some thought it was a joke, but we were serious about our gig of free space. (The real April Fool's jokers wanted to give people the moon.)

July 10th: Users can import contacts. Suddenly, keeping in touch with faraway friends becomes a lot easier.

October 9th: We finally add 'Save Drafts.' No one is more excited than we are about never again having to answer "Why don't you have a way for users to save drafts?"

November 7th: Ideas POP into mind. Why not offer POP and auto-forwarding for free? Sure. Why not?

And of course, there's the one thing that we've been doing every day... trying to build a great email service for you. After all, it's all about you. We read the blogs, the forums, and every testimonial. We appreciate all the nice things you say. There are so many ways for you to contact us, but so few for us to speak to you. So as we start the new year, we just want to say: "Thanks."

We hope you enjoy our approach to email in 2005!

Hi, yep, I read the message yesterday and just thought: "wow, it seems there are real people in there".

I've always liked the culture at Google, I remember that Yahoo started something like this but apparently they went too "corporate" later.

I hope Google will keep being fresh and honest, or at least projecting that image.

Regards!

Seems this is really no less corporate. They simply edited the homepage for the service.

Why not take advantage of the service and take a chance to make some money at the same time. They could have sent personalized emails to their users since they own the software and offered discounts on either advertising services or in their logoed products store as a thank you for participating in the beta program. Wouldn't have been much more difficult and would have the capability to be more human, after all they sent select advertisers and publishers gifts via Fedex.

I really like Gmail. I particularly like it because I talked one of my (non techie) friends into leaving AOL after years of being with them, and they made the transition by switching their email to Gmail first, discontinuing their use of AOL email, and hey presto - there was nothing worth staying for after that!

The thing that really swung it for them was that instead of having an impossible to remember email address at AOL they got their industry keyword @gmail.com

Welcome to PulseToday Revsorg!

Ah yes, That was one good thing about getting the invites first. I grabbed adguru@gmail.com (a domain I've been dying to get but already registered )... I forward all my emails to Gmail account because of the wonderful interface

Hiya - thanks for the welcome

I know it's not got the prestige of a .com but you could pick up adguru.org instead - I guess it's obvious from the fact that I have revs.org that I don't regard .org's as second class domains.

Ah well, never said that I hated any extension or anything. Well, I have a lot of domains with extensions other than .coms (excluding .infos too ) but ATM what I really need is the time to develop them

Thanks for the tip though!
