I agree. Serious website owners need to be "commenters" . Whether it's a forum, blog, etc.. if it allows you to leave a comment with a link back to your website, you do it. In return for your effort, you site will earn a higher pagerank, increased amount of search engine presence, one-way links, and more clicks.

I agree. Though I have been lurking in the forum, I have actively joined other forums as well and the result is great. I have more targeted traffic coming in.

I usually join at least 5 forums daily. A good idea is to use the same username and change the anchor text in your signature pre forum

I totally agree that posting to various discussion boards is one of the best marketing tools for a web business. Most of the traffic to my new site is from the various forums I participate in. And that is key. Participation. Join in and offer relevant advice. If you can position yourself as an "expert" in your field you will grow your customer base.

Interestingly (I hope), as a business owner I started posting to forums and answering questions regarding small business startups and realized the tremendous need for that type of information. My newest business arose from my experiences on these boards.

So, although I originally started posting to help others, I now get to benefit from these postings by generating more traffic to my site. It's a classic win win.

I find that forum and blog posts are the best way to generate traffic. It is best to only join forums that are related to your business and your customer base as you will find off topic forums will usually generate hits but not buyers. I do however find it a very time consuming way of advertising but at the same time it is enjoyable.

I obviously agree with the above statements or else I would not own the site!!! Although we have a very active forum, we are looking to do an active market expansion over the next few months. I want to encourage a friendly forum where people are not intimidated to post any question or answer. If people have any suggestion on how to get more people to post their thoughts and ideas I would love to hear them.

The same with me. It really needs lots of time and I already see a real need to put the forums in a schedule

Everything that I have read on internet marketing says that posting is one of the better ways to advertise your business and at the same time it is a learning and community development experience.

Posting in the web forums is one of the best ways for generating traffic. But what I love about the forums is that they are great places to go to for solutions!
