| Domain Name Branding Quote:
brand noun 1. trademark or distinctive name identifying a product or a manufacturer. 2. product line so identified: a popular brand of soap. 3. mark indicating identity or ownership, as used on a website. ------------------------------ Basically, something that is easily memorable to the end-user, and preferably related to the target service/product/company. Research has shown that the majority of people will not remember a name that consists of 3 words - and all but a few remember 3 long words. 1 word is ideal - regardless of length, but obviously.. the shorter the better. As most 1 worded domains are gone these days, the only real option left is 2 worded domains. As per the 3 word argument mentioned earlier - it is advisable to once again keep the words short & related to the target industry. Examples: A shoe shop operating out of New York Selling skateboarding shoes called 'DCNY': Suitable names could be: - dcny.com (actual company name - only suitable if name is promoted via other media) - skateshoes.com ( highly effective & keyword rich domain describing product) - airtime.com (promotional 'keyword' that could be used in conjunction with other advertising media) Bad Examples: - thebestskateshoesinnewyork.com (while descriptive - the name is far too long) - bestnyshoes.com (at first glance, this would be a great domain. But while it may receive lots of traffic, the majority would not be targeted traffic for their corner of the market - therefore their conversion rate would suffer.) - karatekid.com (entirely unrelated & lacking any related keywords) ---------------------------------------------------- Well, Too much coffee for me i think. Hope that gave you a better understanding of domain branding.
