Too much business

We have a great problem we have too much business. We do not want to hire more people because we do not know how long it will last and we also do not want to hire other consultants temporarily - has anyone had this type of problem we are concern we will upset prospects if we do not start working on their project right away

Re: Too much business

One thing we have tried in the past is to offer a discount off of our hourly fee if they accept the delay in time to start the project. As long as the project is not urgent, most clients are amenable to it.

Re: Too much business

That may work for some clients but have you ever seen a client that did not have an urgent need?

Re: Too much business

Most importantly.

Do not take on more work than you can handle.

Be honest with your clients.

I can't even begin to tell you how many businesses that I have seen in your same exact spot, but they continue to take on more projects. People start getting mad because now their projects are taking months to get done when it used to take days and weeks. They WILL find someone else to take their business to.

Re: Too much business

Great problem to have, congrats.

I find that some owners end up in your situation because your'e charging too low. Maybe it's time to raise your rates.

I have a few clients who have waiting lists of projects. None of them lowered their rates, as someone else has suggested.

Many raise their fees once they start their waiting list, instead. They raise their rates across the board.

Others always have sub-contractors in the wings.

Above all, they are always honest with their clients.

Remember... you don't have to do business on your own.
