Running other site news on mines, will it violate copyright laws?

I'm currently working on an ecommerce website and have a questions that I hope you guys can help clear up.

I am considering running other business website news on my my site and all credit will be given to the author of the article. Will it still violate any copyright laws?

usually a linkback to whatever source you acquired the news from will be sufficient. just read the fine print at the news sites you want to use.

One thing you might want to research is the "fair-use" clause of copyright law.

If you only print part of the story, with a link to the full story on the original site, you are probably in good shape. This is similar to what RSS does, and many news aggregating sites do.

However, reprinting the full article without permission would probably cause you problems.

I'm not a lawyer, but that's my understanding of how copyright law works.

Good luck!

Thumbs up Check out RSS feeds

Hi Spartanic,

I have two suggestions for ya!

First, many entrepreneurs and bloggers will be thrilled to have articles appear on your site for free, just for the free PR. As long as they get a link back to their site, most will freely give you permission. So don't be shy about asking.

Second, go to the business blogs and you will see that many have RSS feeds. As mvd points out, the whole idea behind an RSS feed is to syndicate content to other sites.

So, if you find blogs or other sites with RSS feeds, you are almost guaranteed that they will permit you to use their content. Some even transform their RSS feeds into handy headline lists, like I do. For instance, I offer a javascript snippet that turns my RSS feed into 10 headlines, and about a dozen sites use my headline feed.

In fact my content is used on this site, on the articles section:

Hope this helps!!!

Best,
Anita
