Are there good tools available that allow you to analyze the keywords, metatags, etc that your high ranking competitors are using?

Try using http://googspy.com/ to find competitive information and to see where they are ranked for various keywords

Business Watch that was a great suggestion interesting site. I like to use
http://www.golexa.com/ because it has about 20 tools on one site. I have found it to be very helpful.

I have used the former site for awhile but it looks like they are going to start charging for it but they have also built some additional functionality
