| Google reduced listings? Hi On a web site I own and operate, I occasionally track the Google SERPs for a number of keywords/phrases (I'm not obsessive about it - just do it now and then to publish on our "why you should be listed on our web site page). I just checked the SERPs again today and found that, compared to 12 February 2005, Google is showing fewer total results for quite a few key phrases. Examples below: 12 Feb 2005 08 Feb 2005 =========== =========== Keyphrase#1 13,600,000 8,720,000 Keyphrase#2 11,700,000 8,060,000 Keyphrase#2 UK 3,160,000 3,420,000 (UK increase) Keyphrase#4 1,430,000 725,000 Keyphrase#4 UK 464,000 753,000 (UK increase) Keyphrase#5 1,310,000 950,000 Keyphrase#6 5,120,000 3,070,000 Keyphrase#7 3,050,000 3,130,000 (increase) Keyphrase#7 UK 1,010,000 1,270,000 (UK increase) As you can see, some of these are quite substantial decreases (and a few increases). Anyone else noticing a similar thing in their sector? Cheers. -- Jane Patience - The Friendly-Places Team http://www.friendly-places.com Friendly Accommodation in the UK and Ireland |

I see some of them have gone back up again today, but some are still a bit lower than 12 Feb, which I what I would consider normal fluctuation. The big drops I was seeing yesterday were a bit of a surprise! Cheers. -- Jane Patience http://www.friendly-places.com Friendly Accommodation in the UK and Ireland |

| Re: Google reduced listings? A few ideas. Google is dropping pages from its index, not that likely. Google is being more targetted in the pages it returns due to an algorithm change. Google is calculating a different total due to an algo change. I suppose that the total figure is a bit of a guess by Google anyway based on its hashes of website content, it only lets you access the first 1000 or so results. ---------------------- http://www.abcseo.com/ |
