It is still in beta and doing well. Lots of conflicts. It would not work
with Blog This on the Google Toolbar. Lots of complaints. And then there are
the spyware charges.

Mark, pay attention; I just posted all that earlier. You need to put
stuff in your .htaccess file. It's on the Fantomaster site.

It's pretty much a caching proxy with some compression and Mozilla's
prefetch scheme. I don't see much to it that can't be done with
Mozilla configured with a big cache size & link prefetching enabled.

The compression thing isn't universal, but Apache 2.0 does have a
module for it (http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_deflate.html).
I don't know about other servers. Pretty much any recent browser using
http 1.1 will support it.

The accelerator also can transmit deltas only, which doesn't make much
sense with a local proxy.

It is "off-line" now. Many reports of broken pages and insecure behavior.

How much information do you want to freely give to Google?

Did anyone actually install the Fantomaster anti-Google code? I feel
like I'm talking to myself on this group some days.

<raises hand>
I did.

Fantomaster was kind enough to put some text and images in the public
domain for everyone to use:

There have been several code snippets posted around to block this thing. IP
based blocking is problematic, since the IP can change. There are also
questions as to what the user will see. What to block with? 404? 501?

The jury is still out.
