you've received some good advice all around. The only thing I would add is that you can go to the library to find some texts on it, for more examples.

My company sent a press release to the local press, but it was publicised. I believe that it would be better to hire a PR firm and let the professionals do their job, although it would problably cost a few hundreds bucks. But I think the benefits are worth it.

Here is another good site www.prleap.com I've had mixed results with prweb, although the release did generate one sale, so for that I would rate it a huge success. Press releases are just another tool to help promote your business. They should be used in conjunction with other advertising, traditional and web. I think you'll results will vary and lot will depend on the industry you are in----some are more geared to the internet than others.

Visit the most comprehensive Las Vegas Real Estate, Henderson Real Estate and Las Vegas Homes website online. Or look at pictures of my Parrot

In terms of writing the release it has to be news that is key, and remeber what is news to you might not be to anyone else. Things like New business, expansion or new product. For example I do some media work for a company that makes a product for the oil industry and almost every release gets picked up. (I send some out that I know won't but I send them out for other reasons). The last few release we have sent out have been:

Company X to expand into the X industry
Company X releases new testing results for product X
Company X to open new testing site in X location
Company X announces partnership with company Y

Those are some of the ones that have been picked up.

Just as important as what it says is where you send it. I can pretty much tell you everyone that will pick up the oil company press releases. make sure you hit the industry trade magazines, and the local and regional business tv and print publications.

It's down now but we have some news coverage we have got at www.1stcalltechnology click on marketing then press release writing. Most of the stories on the right were taken word for word from the release.
