Other than using IM to talk with some of our vendors overseas, we do not use IM and were wondering if other firms use IM to talk with vendors or clients and how effective it is?

We do not most of our clients are not high tech they are more high touch

Unfortunately. We do technical staffing and work primarily with IT folks. Personally, I love the phone. Many of my managers get stuck in long meetings though and they will respond via IM where I can't reach them otherwise. I was quite resistent to use IM but since everybody kept telling me, get IM, get IM so I did and it really is okay.

We use them for some of our more technically proficient clients but we prefer to use Skype it is quicker and easier

We use IM with our freelancers and the telephone/email with our clients. It works out well for us.
