Project Implementation

How do you tie back your projects to the business plan? We sometimes have a disconnect and we find ourselves working on a project that is not part of the strategic plan - any help would be great

Re: Project Implementation

In all of our project approval sheets we require a link back to the strategic plan if there is not one it has to be approved by the CEO

We do the same and it seems to work pretty well.

Re: Project Implementation

Other than for emergency or maintenance projects all of our projects must fall into the four strategic priorities we have set for the firm.

If I find myself wanting to do what you've described, that means that I must take something off my current plan to add this "new" thing. If I look at my plan and don't want to remove something, I don't do the new thing.

I don't know what sort of plan your company has, but I would question your companies planning process if this type of thing occurs. Seems like it's possible that the owner isn't buying into the plan or just had the plan created because they thought that the needed it. And while IMO, all businesses need a plan, if they don't follow it, it's worthless.

Your strategies always relate/are linked to your objectives. Your objectives relate to your vision.

If that's not happening, have them contact me The planning process I use has that happen to the "t". Doesn't mean that your plan can't change... but you can't just keep adding things to it; w/o removing things.
