Actually one more thing i will add is why not find a book about grass and learn about the best times to fertilise it and what type to use and such and add this as a service, Most people that are willing to pay for the lawn to be mowed, like it to be looking it's best so they may appreciated knowing when to fertilise their lawn. Which of course you can do for them. It shouldnt take me then an extra 10-15 minutes and it can add an extra little bit of income on once or twice a year.

Super advice from Eileen

Eileen's post on offering to cut lawns for free is spot on. Sure you will get some people taking advantage of you but not many. Once they have seen how good a job you do they won't want to go back to cutting their own lawn.

Some complementary ideas:
  • Go for a long term deal - lawn cut twice a week in the growing season (whatever that happens to be where you live) for $xx
  • Offer a total annual lawn care service (spring weed and feed, all year round cutting, edging twice a year, autumn feeding etc) for an upfront annual fee
  • Do the above on contract
  • Target a niche - affulent cash rich, time poor.
  • Offer a discount for referrals
  • Form some joint ventures with lawn care product suppliers: ornaments, furniture, lights, fencing, tree surgeons,....
  • Once you have a relationship with a client introduce your JV partners services or products - you take x% of the sale.

Keep thinking, there is a lot you can do with the lawn care business.

You got it

Spot on Richard.

And if you target a well defined niche and can identify some of those suppliers who already operate in that niche then they may be able to introduce you to some prospects too.

It's a win-win-win.

Do extra get extra

My Landscaper makes my lawn look so good he even puts
little flowers around my mailbox. My wife and I like the way
he takes care of our yard that we just gave him a contract
to do the front of the house a lot more than a yard.

Why do you need a partner. I pay a soon as the job is done.
Bigger jobs half down no problem. Sounds like a little cold feet.

Put some warm socks on and just do it

I have given him four customers. My friends are always asking
me who is doing my lawn.

Once you get started you will do great if you do what is best for
your customer. You will have all the help that you need.
