Policies and Procedures

Small businesses are notorious for not having written procedures does your firm maintain them - is it worth the investment of time?

We have written HR policies but not any others. The HR policies are critical and we would not be without them and I know the other ones are important but we are only a 25 person shop - eventually we will get there.

In a business like ours you have to have them. I will tell you even if we were not in this business you would need them it cuts down on training time and reduces errors.

I think they are invaluable in training a new person and are also helpful in documenting critical processes - I would take the time to complete them.

When we are often called in to do consulting projects we have found that part of the root problem is that there are no procedures so we get paid a lot of money to implement them.

I think small businesses underestimate how important having procedures is for a business I would not operat a business without them so it does not surprise me with your comments.
