LLC vs Sole Proprietor

Both these types of business are appealing but have very different structures.

Sole Proprietor is easy to start (Just get a business license and a Tax ID) but the owner is fully liable.

LLC is around 10x the cost to start but protects its investors and owners from being liable themselves.

I have also found it really depends on the business itself. Most business that are just local shops can get away with a Sole Proprietor without really having that many issues but if the business is going to be online then it is better to have an LLC because a company never knows what type of customers it will deal with. Also, it depends on the type of business online. If it is a higher risk or vague topic, unless the business makes sure to have written contract and ways to prove it did the work or sold the product it advertised then that would make having an LLC better as well.

This is just the research I have done over the years while trying to save up to start my own business but am now wanting others opinion before i jump into the game and really get started.

Re: LLC vs Sole Proprietor

We found from a cost standpoint that establishing a LLC was about the same as a Sole Proprietor but you get the extra protection of the LLC
