How successful have you been at trying to get customers through user groups on the internet like yahoo or google groups? Is it worth the time or is there a better way to get at a target audience?

We have gotten quite a few leads from user groups but we have a very focused niche.

We have found them to be useful but you have to add value in the discussions otherwise you have no credibility and they will view your comments as spam. You also have to be a member for awhile and make ongoing contributions.

We have not had much success with them

Our experience has been the same unless you have a very specific niche I would not bother
