It is known recommendation to visit and post in the Internet forums for creating links to your web site using the member's signature.

One of the targets is the search engines.

The other target are the forum visitors. They might eventualy read the signature and follow the link.

The question is:

Do you read and visit the links in the forum members' signatures?

I try to visit alot of members links from their signatures. Reason being is I would like people to visit my link and look around. Most of us use the signature section for backlinks and advertising. Why should I put my link out there and expect people to look around and not extend the same courtesy? Plus it's always neat to see how others set up their webpages and to see what products and services they have to offer. It might just help you out.

At the end of October, I posted one and the same pool “Do you visit the links in the forum members' signature?” to 5 different forums.

Although, the pools will close at the beginning of February, I thought you might be interested in the results collected so far.

Hence, I publish the 5 URLs to the 5 different web sites that host forums with this pool.

For your convenience, the results collected so far shows that most people visit the signatures quite often 45%. Another 23% use the forum signatures only when the post is useful and there are about 19% doing that only once or twice the first time when they read something from the signature owner. The rest 13% rarely visit any signature link.

Absolutely yes I visit others via their signature links. Especially if they are my competition. And also as a courtesy. I like to see how others set up their sites and if their posts are helpful or relevant then I add them to my favorites for future reference.
