Online email training or newsletters

What are the most efficetive ways of marketing your products throught online training i.e. 10 emails or a bi-weekly newsletter?

I think if you have an expensive product that you should look at an autoresponder - once you have written the article they do the rest for you

Can you explain more on the autresponder and how it would help. We do sell products where training and info is needed.
