Own server

Does it make any sense to own your own server when technology changes so rapidly? We are considering it to reduce our monthly cash costs but I would prefer not do it but my colleague thinks it is a good idea. Any thoughts?

Re: Own server

We looked into this and data has been so cheap to store now that we quickly dismissed buying our own server for two reasons. First, it did not make financial sense and second, we were concerned about backup and security.

Re: Own server

The other challenge with having your own server is that you have to have the skill to run it or hire someone who does which can also get expensive. I cant think of a reason why a small business owner would buy a server.

I agree - there are unintended consequences (costs) of having your own server and many people do not think of them until it is too late
