| I use a multi backup plan. First, I use hosts that backup their servers on a regular basis (daily). I wouldn't host a site I cared about with a company that didn't do that. Secondly, I keep my own backups at a third location. Currently, that's on a hard drive in my office. I'm developing a software that will backup all of my sites to a dedicated server that I will have located at a third location.
I've experienced hard drive failures, and it's been driven into me that you absolutely cannot be overly-protected for the potential disaster of data-loss. It's not enough to rely on a single method of backing up your data. You can't predict when a disaster will occcur, nor can you predict the nature of the disaster. Having multiple backups of my data in multiple locations is the same as having insurance, to me. Better, in fact, because with data backups I can be back up and running in less than a day, and with a minimal loss of data.
