Is it necessary to pay someone to create a website for you and host it? Or can that be done by yourself? I am planning to create a small online business and not sure where to start.

You can create it and host it yourself but if you are new to it, I would suggest you use a provider - they will do it faster, better and cheaper. There are plenty of sites that offer free webpages with hosting with them so I would use google to try to find them. Good luck

Try using Joomla.com with virtue mart extension. It is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. I would use godaddy.com to host you site. It is cheap and legit. Good luck.
