How important is the yahoo directory?

People pay close to $300 to be in this directory each year so it has to be worth it but I do not see how - do you use that directory? Can anyone enlighted me?

I was told by an seo that it was very important - the most important directory because of the name and it is reviewed by humans

I've never understood how the Yahoo directory is free but to submit your site to Yahoo Search, you have to be signed up...

I cante believe that it is worth the $300 I would spend it on ppc at least then you will get some guaranteed traffic sent to your site.

They obviously think it is very important if they charge $300
