How important is it to get in various directories to help improve your various search engine standings? There are so many out there and I do not want to waste my time if it is not going to be helpful.

I read somewhere that google was beginning to discount directories in their algorithyms but I am not sure anyone knows. I think the important thing to consider is that it cannot hurt to have another link to your site, provided the directory is relevant.

That was my understanding as well but as you said it can't hurt!!!

Yahoo is suppose to be the best directory to look at because google knows that each site that gets on the directory is manually looked at and categorized however it does cost money.

I was at a seminar earlier this week put on by Network Solutions and they said the same thing. I am going to have to look into it.
