Dave,

Answer best provided in short story. Heard of Adams Mark hotels? They're 800 number is ........ADAM (that is 2326). I won't publish the complete number and add to their assinine marketing. My 800 is...2346.

I've had as many as 100 wrong number calls in 1 week. That's 100 people who did not get to the place they wanted because some marketing mba (small letters intended) was hooked on a vanity number. That's 100 people who were told that the company was out of business. 100 folks who we sometime suggested another motel chain.

Face it, people dial numbers not letters. I get PO'd every time some moron advertises their vanity number without the real numerical equivalent also listed. A lot more people get po'd than remember the cutesy number. If you have sufficient $$$$$ to write and advertise a jingle to indelibly impress the number or name in peoples minds, great, if not, the vamity is yours.

Oh, the reason I'm so pointed is that when I get those wrong number calls, guess who pays! Me. If I answer the call, I've often called their 800 number just to B&M at their call handlers. I've even asked for the supervisor and ground on them too.

Thank gosh 800 calls are down to $.07 a minute. Isn't quite as irritating as it used to be.

Oh, if you can get a catchy numerical number, go for it! 256-2566, 459-5959, etc. Far more effective and rememberable and user friendly than ....adam. See, you don't know what that is unless you look at the dial!
