Franchise Process

What is the typical process of inquiring to signing up as a franchisee do they all pretty much work the same way? Are you better served going through a broker?

Re: Franchise Process

When we were looking at franchises, we first filled out an online questionnaire with a net worth statement. Then we were contacted by a franchise sales person and were sent some brochures/sales materials. All of the franchises refused to give us the UFOC before we went out to visit them - which is the most important document to look at. They arequire you to come out and then there is a cooling off period - then you sign the agreement and start your business.

Re: Franchise Process

Using a broker is the same as using a broker in buying a home. They usually have a bit more insight into the market but they are often motivated by commissions - on balance I would use them because they do not cost you anything.

Re: Franchise Process

The larger franchises pretty much follow the same process that wedding role outlined the smaller ones are more flexible

Re: Franchise Process

I have never had a problem getting the UFOC just by requesting it. I never had to visit the franchisor first.

I do not recommend using a broker because they will steer you to the franchises that they work for, which may not be the best fit for you. They work on commission, so they have their own best inteserests at heart. Do your own searching.

As a franchise owner, I offer a very comprehensive manual in my start up kit (see below) with lots of great insider info.

Re: Franchise Process

We asked for the UFOC from a couple franchises and they were reluctant to send it to us with over 400 pages, I can see why that may be the case .
