One additional factor to be aware of is potential future programming fees. I just learned that I'm going to be charged $100 to update the programming on my terminal to provide for a forthcoming law requiring that only the last four digits of a credit card number appear on the printed receipt. The bank providing my processing services says that if I do not update, they will report me to the government and the government will fine me $25,000 for noncompliance.

Anyone know of a way to get the terminal updated without paying the processing agents a huge fee? I could accept a $25 fee or something like that, but the $100 rate just seems exorbitant.
